Akka’s City Farm in the Emmer Rensenpark is currently struggling financially. Income has fallen enormously since the corona outbreak, putting the farm under increasing cost pressure. The farm will not close for the time being, spokesperson Edwin Knol said. He is responding to rumors on social media that the Stadsboerderij would close the door.
The location, former children’s farm of the former animal park (not to be confused with city farm ‘t Nije Hoff near Bargeres) has been run by the Akka’s Ganzenparadijs foundation in Dalen since 2018. The foundation uses the place for, among other things, the shelter of old or rescued animals from the bio-industry.
In recent days, various messages have appeared on Facebook with questions and comments about the farm. The rent can no longer be paid and closure therefore seems imminent. Indian stories, says Knol. Conclusions that people should take for their own account.
Because the foundation does not want to know about closing. But it cannot be denied that the farm is currently struggling financially, Knol admits. Monthly costs are around 3000 euros, which is necessary for rent, feed, bedding and veterinary costs, among other things. “Due to inflation and the war in Ukraine, costs have also risen enormously.”
