Brand Machine Group acquires Peckham Rye

Licensor and international owner of fashion brands Brand Machine Group (BMG) has acquired 200-year-old London tailoring business Peckham Rye to bolster its growing menswear portfolio.

The acquisition is part of BMG’s strategic plans to expand its menswear division after the company relaunched luxury menswear brand Duchamp in 2022 and appointed former Hackett London executive Robert Cork as menswear buying director last month.

“Following the successful launch of Duchamp last year, adding affordable bespoke tailoring to our brand offering was a considered and deliberate move given the team and exceptional capabilities we now have within the group,” commented Tom Duncan, Brand Director at BMG. the purchase in a statement.

“The industry is on the upswing post pandemic and there is a huge opportunity in most men’s wardrobe when it comes to bespoke tailoring and occasion wear and working with a brand with such an enviable heritage in the industry is a legacy and a story , which we are happy to continue,” added Duncan.

Established in 1975, Peckham Rye is a sixth generation family-run tailoring business with centuries of craftsmanship and expertise. BMG intends to preserve tradition while creating a brand that is “relevant to today’s young, confident man.”

BMG, which also owns brands such as Penfield and US Polo Assn. will launch an Autumn/Winter 2023 Pre-Collection in May, featuring pieces that “fuse classicism with modern British refinement, sartorial elegance with contemporary accents for today’s urban gentleman”.

At the heart of the relaunch is a collection that offers “youth and confidence,” according to BMG, while also offering “attention to detail and age-old elements that would pass any quality test on Saville Row.”

The collection aims to offer a mix of tailored and smart pieces, designed for a “hybrid working life”. Tailoring is offered in traditional houndstooth check and herringbone and paired with denim. The jeans will also be tailor-made, for example with a higher waist and adjustment options on the side. There are also tailored linen blend jackets, accessories and ties, hats, sportswear and jerseys to create “a diverse but selected collection of garments that no wardrobe should be without”.

The Peckham Rye collection will be available from May at peckhamrye.co.uk. Prices start at 50 British pounds (around 56 euros); the made-to-measure products range from 299 to 350 pounds (around 336 to 393 euros).
