Girlfriend stabbed 18 times with Stanley knife: man gets 10 years in prison

A 52-year-old Pole who tried to kill his girlfriend by stabbing her 18 times with a knife has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. The judge ruled on Tuesday. He must also pay 40,000 euros in compensation and he may not have any contact with her for five years.

In March last year, the police went to the woman’s house on Wilhelminaplein in Best after a report. There, the officers found her unconscious and bleeding profusely in the bedroom. She was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where it turned out that she had eighteen stab wounds to her arms, chest, face and neck.

Carnage
The woman had wanted to end her relationship with the man for some time, but he did not accept that and threatened her several times with death. After the woman’s birthday party, the man put his money where his mouth was. In their house, he first squeezed her throat, then cut her neck with a box cutter. Then he continued to stab her until she lay unconscious on the floor.

The woman’s daughter, son-in-law and grandson were also in the house at the time. The daughter saw how her mother was beaten and tried to stop the stabbing.

Deep scars
The woman is scarred for life. She has large scars on her face and she still has no feeling in part of her face. She, like her daughter, has a post-traumatic stress disorder.

During the hearing, the man said he cannot remember what happened because he had drunk vodka that night. The judge does not believe that because he does remember things that could possibly be in his favor. He also sought contact with his ex-girlfriend in prison. According to the judge, he clearly puts his own interest above that of the woman.

All in all, the court imposed a prison sentence of ten years. The man is also not allowed to have contact with the woman and her daughter. Every time he does, he has to go to jail for an extra two weeks. He must also pay compensation of more than 40,000 euros to the woman and her daughter.
