breaking news! On this day, the Nelson Mandela Bridge will reopen

As a walker, cyclist or traveler we were unable to use the Nelson Mandela Bridge for almost two months. But good news: from Thursday 26 January 19:00 the bridge will open again.

With this, Zoetermeer train station and RandstadRail stop Driemanspolder will also open and we will no longer have to make detours or use shuttle buses and other stations.

Gaping hole

Steel supports have recently been placed under the bridge to support the weak parts of the Mandela Bridge. This was not an option for the middle part, so the heavy middle part of the top cover has been removed. The bridge now has a gaping hole that we can walk or drive over uncovered from Thursday.

ramp

In addition, a temporary bridge has been placed on this central section. The only drawback of this new piece is that it is not level with the existing parts. This means that a ramp has been installed for cyclists and stairs for walkers, so that we can bridge the difference in height. That means extra hard pedaling and climbing stairs to get to the other side.

The bus stops on the A12 and Zuidweg will remain closed, as will the Nootdorpsepad cycle path. These closures will last approximately until mid-February. With the construction of the new Entree district, the station area will also be tackled, just like the Mandela Bridge.
