For several weeks there was speculation as to whether Lewis Hamilton could actually turn his back on Formula 1 after the bitter 2021 season finale. Now his Mercedes team has finally cleared up the assumptions.
After the F1 record world champion spoke up on social media for the first time last Sunday, his employer has now followed suit. Mercedes published a photo montage in which the designer officially welcomed his superstar back.
The German-British team reacted to the overwhelming reactions after the 36-year-old had spoken again for the first time since his Instagram break, which began in December.
Numerous reactions to Lewis Hamilton’s Insta-Post
“I was gone. Now I’m back,” the dethroned Formula 1 world champion had written under a photo on Instagram. The post has garnered over two million likes to date, more than any other post by the superstar in months.
Exactly when the seven-time champion will resume his work at Mercedes is not yet certain.
The only thing that is clear is that Hamilton will be present at the official presentation of the new car for the 2022 season. The presentation of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance is scheduled for February 18th.
Will Lewis Hamilton stay in the background for now?
It is possible that the star of the team will continue to stay away from the public until then. Until recently, Hamilton had remained silent about the events in Abu Dhabi.
In December, at the big season finale in the Arabian desert, the world title was only snatched from him by Max Verstappen in the very last round.
Meanwhile, Hamilton’s new teammate George Russell had already made his debut with the Silver Arrows. Last week, the 23-year-old paid an inaugural visit to the Mercedes factories in Brackley and Brixworth, UK, and introduced himself to the employees of the most successful Formula 1 team of all time.
