Will it remain as soft as during the turn of the year? This is the weather forecast for January

Santa has left, the oliebollen are gone and the fireworks are extinguished. In other words: the new year has begun! Will it remain as mild in January as during the turn of the year?

Jaco van Wezel van weatheronline.nl says: “The very mild weather of New Year’s Day does not last long in the first week of January.”

Winter weather in Zoetermeer

Can we still expect real winter weather in Zoetermeer in January? Jaco: “We will probably have to deal with calm weather, where it freezes during the nights during clear spells. In situations with little wind, persistent fog or low clouds can also easily occur. In that case it hardly freezes at night and the temperature during the day is only a few degrees above zero.” In other words: it won’t get extremely cold, but we can still expect some winter weather.

Weather influences gas consumption

The mild winter weather is favorable for gas consumption in Zoetermeer. Jaco: “With daytime maximums of around 8 degrees and because it is often cloudy, most nights are mild. In short: gas consumption throughout Europe is falling sharply compared to the last cold period. This is favorable for the development of the gas price. Will it clear up sometime? Then the light can freeze and the heating will have to be turned on a bit more in the evening and in the morning.”

The strong wind also decreases in the course of January. That is great for poorly insulated houses, because they are less affected by drafts and heat loss. However, a lack of sun and wind is not really beneficial for generating green energy.

The end of January

The forecast for the end of January is still very uncertain. The temperature during the day is probably around 5 degrees Celsius and the minima are around 0 degrees. Towards February, the chance of mild and wet weather increases. It seems that the skates can therefore remain in the closet in January. Fortunately, we still have the photos from last time!
