An oil barrel with a capacity of two hundred liters exploded in the fatal carbide accident in Diessen on Saturday. A 23-year-old man from that place was killed. The barrel containing the carbide exploded even before the victim wanted to light it, a police spokesperson told Omroep Brabant on Monday.
The police assume it was a fatal accident. She has already stated this before. No criminal offenses have been committed, the spokesman said. This conclusion concludes the investigation for the police.
Fate struck Saturday at half past five in the afternoon in a meadow in Diessen. Forty people, mainly young people, were traditionally shooting with carbide. Until it suddenly goes wrong. The 23-year-old man is seriously injured by the exploding barrel. He is still taken to the hospital, but help is of no avail.
In carbide shooting, according to tradition, carbide is brought into contact with water in a metal milk churn. This causes a chemical reaction that releases gas. That gas shoots the lid off the can under high pressure and with a lot of speed. Sometimes a ball is also used to seal the can. The aim is to create a huge bang when fired.
