Customers of the Southwest Drenthe Food Bank enjoy Third Christmas Day

Going out for a nice meal during Christmas or putting an extensive dinner on the table at home is not for everyone. That is why restaurant De Tippe in Vledder will open its doors to customers of the Southwest Drenthe Food Bank tonight.

It is the eighth time that Jeroen and Heleen Kiewiet, owners of restaurant De Tippe, organize this evening. “For many people, let me speak for myself, it goes without saying that we can go on holiday every year and buy clothes for the children. That is not the case for everyone, not even for people in our region. It is rewarding work to organize this evening,” says Jeroen Kiewiet.

About forty guests will enjoy a three-course Christmas buffet tonight, with soups, salads, meat and fish dishes and a dessert buffet with cakes, bavarois and mousse. “It’s exactly what our guests also ate on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. They are definitely not leftovers tonight,” explains Kiewiet.

According to Alien Jalvingh, of the Southwest Drenthe Food Bank, the enthusiasm is less than in previous years. “That is unfortunate and remarkable, because our number of customers has doubled.” Jalvingh dare not say why fewer people are queuing. “Maybe people are uncomfortable with it. I have no idea.”
