Until September 2021, Tesla had a so-called “Referral Program”: Anyone who recommended Tesla to friends and thus attracted new customers could charge 1,000 miles (approx. 1,609 kilometers) free of charge or be paid a certain sum. Then the program was abolished – until a new referral program was launched in China in October.
The Tesla Referral Program restarts in China
If customers from China convince others to buy a Tesla, both parties will each receive 3,500 collection points. If you buy a second vehicle yourself, you get the points for both parties, i.e. a total of 7,000 points. You can use it to shop in the Tesla shop, as Teslamag reports.
This program has also been available in the USA since the end of November, although so far only the recommendation of Tesla’s solar products such as the Solar Roof has been rewarded with 6,000 points for both parties. In fact, the referral program in the USA was never completely suspended: According to reports from Teslamag, since autumn 2021 participants here have received a bonus of 500 US dollars for a successful recommendation.
The collection points seem to have a higher value in the US
The information portal further reports that the points appear to have a higher value in the US than in China: while in Asia a Tesla-style bobby car costs 6,000 collection points, in North America you can get a CSS adapter for 5,000 collection points worth US$250 -Dollar.
Twelve months after the collection points have been credited, they expire again – unless further points have been collected since then, all points remain valid for another twelve months. It is also important: The points can only be used in the Tesla shop, a payment in US dollars is not possible. In addition, the participants should only share the referral link with individual acquaintances and should not post it on social media, for example. In the conditions of participation, Tesla writes that anyone who does not follow the rules will be excluded from the program.
Will the Tesla Referral Program come back to Germany soon?
Teslamag assumes that the Tesla vehicles themselves will soon become part of the referral program again in the USA. In addition, the program may soon come back to Europe and could therefore be of interest to customers in Germany. As of the end of November, however, Teslamag was not yet speculating about when exactly that could happen and how much the collection points in Europe will be worth.
