Some Zandvoorts had already heard it in the corridors and others were surprised today: but most are overjoyed with the arrival of two extra editions of the Dutch Grand Prix to Zandvoort.
“It is of course the fervent hope of every entrepreneur and now that it is finalized it is one big party of course,” says Bart Schuitenmaker, owner of brasserie ZiN. “Really fantastic.” He and his fellow catering entrepreneurs in Haltestraat are positive about the arrival of the DGP in 2024 and 2025.
“It had to be made final, but actually we already knew it,” says Rob Smits of café Fier. “It is of course a very big party for two years, so I think that is why there are two more years.” The entrepreneurs earn well from the Formula 1 visitors. This allows them to build up some reserves that will last them through the winter. “There were about ten thousand people walking around here in the evening, so there is really no room for more. It was full,” says Smits. He is already looking forward to the upcoming race weekend.
Absolutely great!
Enthusiastic sounds can also be heard on the street. “This is part of Zandvoort, it is good for the middle class,” says a gentleman. “Really great! I’m a big fan of Max, so very happy that the race will be held here for another two years,” says a lady who lives near the circuit. “I always go and have a look in the Van Speijkstraat where the crowd of people walk through towards the circuit. It’s really beautiful to see. I’m already looking forward to it, it can’t be soon enough at the end of August.”
