This is what Sami Sykö’s comment was about

Sami Sykkö forgot a suitable word in the middle of his narration.

Fashion expert Sami Sykön reaction film dresser and costume designer Tiina Kaukanen dressed in a suit in the handshake line at Linna’s party shuddered.

Kaukanen, who won the State Award for Cinematography last year and received five Jussi awards for best costume in his career, stepped onto the red carpet in a sparsely knitted outfit with plenty of different colors. The suit was awarded as the young designer of the year Juha Vehmaanperen handwriting.

Yle’s live broadcast of the Linna’s celebrations narrated Jussi-Pekka Rantanen wondered if Kaukanen’s outfit is perhaps Linna’s most spectacular and memorable of all time.

Sykkö responded to Rantanen’s assessment with a laugh:

– Let’s say this way, at least the most memorable.

Some of the viewers interpreted Sykö’s laughing as a criticism of the suit. However, that was not what it was.

– I only laughed because I couldn’t find the right word! I was thinking of a word related to weaving, i.e. kudelma. But I didn’t make it up at that point. That’s why I took the options offered to me by JP, i.e. the colorful and memorable one.

– So I just laughed at my own word search, Sykkö elaborates when contacted by Iltalehti.

He emphasizes that he found Kaukanen’s suit really interesting.

– I think it’s great that Tiina Kaukanen specifically chose the suit of the young designer of the year.

Sykkö knew in advance that the suit was coming. He said in a live broadcast that the suit was designed by Juha Vehmaanperä. Of course, he also knew that Vehmaanperä makes suits by hand.

– I have seen his interesting works at Aalto University’s spring show. And now I got to see his recent works. I had previously looked at pictures of Vehmaanperä’s costumes on Instagram. He is an exceptional talent, Sykkö emphasizes.

Sykkö would also like to say separately that he appreciates the fact that new Finnish design is being brought to Linna – and that some risks are taken.

– A lot happens in a live broadcast and there are many things on the mind. That’s why the word kudelma was also forgotten. If I had been given three seconds more time, the word would have popped into my head.

– I would have described the suit as a particularly fine and colorful weave, Sykkö sums up.
