Incumbent Senator Warnock defeated Republican Herschel Walker, a former American football player who was emphatically supported by Donald Trump, in the second round. In last month’s midterm congressional elections, none of the candidates managed to win a majority. Now, according to the AP, black pastor Warnock stands at 50.9 percent against 49.1 percent for Walker after counting 96 percent of the vote.

The 51st seat for the Democrats gives President Joe Biden more room to implement his plans. At 50-50, Vice President Kamala Harris’ vote was the deciding factor and the Democrats couldn’t afford a single sleeper in the Senate.

The people of Georgia are in the run-up to the run off flooded with political advertisements. According to non-profit organization OpenSecrets, the two parties together spent a total of $ 401 million during the campaign, the equivalent of 383 million euros. Walker was discredited in the run-up to the election for allegedly paying for the abortions of two ex-girlfriends, while presenting himself as fiercely anti-abortion.
