Tunisia is said to have already appointed the new national coach. The last opponent in the Dutch group dismissed Sabri Lamouchi after the 5-1 defeat against Sweden. According to Tunisian media, Hervé Renard (57) will be his successor.

Renard is an experienced trainer at final tournaments. He previously served as national coach at the 2018 (Morocco), 2022 (Saudi Arabia) and 2023 (France women’s) World Cups and won the Africa Cup with Zambia (in 2012) and Ivory Coast (in 2015).

The Frenchman was recently national coach of Saudi Arabia. He took the Arab country to the World Cup but was fired two months before the tournament.

Things were anything but quiet with his new project Tunisia. Just before the World Cup, the country lost without a chance 5-0 from Belgium. Lamouchi has only been national coach of the Netherlands since the beginning of this calendar year Eagles of Carthage.

It was the first time that a national coach was pushed aside after just one match in a World Cup final round. However, it has happened a number of times that a national coach was fired later during the tournament. For example, the national coach of South Korea, Cha Bum-kun, was dismissed after a 5-0 defeat against the Dutch team at the 1998 World Cup after two group matches.

Tunisia will close the group stage against the Dutch team on Friday, June 26. It is still unclear when Hervé would front the group.
