Auto editor Niek Schenk replies: ‘This can certainly have advantages. But don’t forget that the familiar position of three colors in different positions helps to recognize when you see a red, orange or green light. Colorblind people have already been helped with it.’
‘Of course you can come up with solutions for this, for example by depicting a different symbol in the lamp for each colour. But it seems risky to me to change this: everyone is used to this now. To avoid confusion, it should actually be adjusted worldwide at once. That is quite a challenge and costs a lot of money.’
