Boxing champion backtracks after threatening Lionel Messi

Mexican world boxing champion Canelo Álvarez has apologized for his threats against Argentinian soccer superstar Lionel Messi.

“In the last few days I have let myself be carried away by the passion and love for my country and have spoken inappropriately, for which I apologize to Messi and the Argentinian people,” wrote Álvarez just before the start of the World Cup matches between Argentina and Mexico on twitter.

“Every day we learn something new and this time it was my turn. I wish both teams every success in their games today and we will support Mexico until the end,” added Álvarez.

“May he pray to God that he doesn’t meet me”

The pugilist was recently annoyed by a scene from the Argentinian dressing room at the World Cup in Qatar.

Messi touched a Mexican jersey lying on the ground with a shoe while taking it off. However, a video from the dressing room clearly shows that Messi is not looking down at the moment.

Álvarez, however, accused Messi of disrespect for his country. “May he pray to God that he doesn’t meet me,” wrote the multiple champion, among other things, in a veritable Twitter tirade.
