LThe news has already alarmed students by rekindling the climate in the school world: the Invalsi tests are back to all effects, after the suspension of the Covid period. A letter from Robert Ricci, president of Invalsi (National Institute for the evaluation of the education and training system), sent to schools in recent days has created alarm. «The conduct of the Invalsi 2023 tests constitutes requirement for admission to the final state exam of the first cycle of education and requirement for admission to the final state exam for the second cycle. Last year and the one before that, the Invalsi tests and the school-work alternation were not a requirement for access to the high school diploma.
Ricci then specified yesterday that «legislative decree n. 62 of 2017, which has always remained so having suffered only suspensions related to the pandemic emergency”.
Invalsi, the pros. According to the president Roberto Ricci
They are also specified in the letter the days in which the tests will take place and the disciplines covered by the tests (Italian, Mathematics, English). For Ricci the tests Invalsi, evidence standards that identify the level of skills on a national scale, are essential for tracing a history of students’ skills and knowledge. And they have the great merit of offering a tool for comparing the preparation offered by our school system and that of other European countries. In short, they are objective and comparable data.
Invalsi, the cons. According to the students
«The Invalsi tests are a tool for evaluate students by dividing them into areas, as if they were numbers to check and examine», counters Alice Beccari, of the Students’ Union, «All this through questions made of mere notions incapable of making themselves a useful tool for growth and training for students. Again the students are not listened to on decisions concerning their education and their future».
A “mass filing of fragile students”?
The Roars association (Return on Academic Research and School) raises another issue of great importance in a country that “boasts” the Ministry of Education and Merit.
