News | Malvinas: the recovered photos

The photographic exhibition “The photos recovered from Malvinas. Télam Archive”organized by the National News Agency, will be inaugurated at the Argentine Theater of La Plata. The sample can be visited until December 11, from 4 to 7 pm, with free admission.

At the meeting, you will be able to appreciate the exclusive photographic coverage of the special envoys and the war correspondents of the news agency. The exhibition brings together photos of key moments of the war, the daily life of the islanders, the journalistic coverage in the area and the situation of the soldiers at the front.

These historical images of the Falklands War and the political-social context of the country during the last military dictatorship, were captured by professional photojournalists from the Télam agency destined to record the news in the disputed area. The photographic material on the confrontation was preserved after repeated robberies, thefts and losses, many of these images will be exhibited for the first time after being stay hidden for 40 years.

In the exhibition of the archive, which has been available to the community digitally since June 10, the images taken after the Argentine landing on the islands on April 2, 1982, will be part of a federal tour designed to exhibit the material in all the country. An initiative that involves a commitment to the visual history of the country.

The images were obtained by photojournalists Román Von Eckstein, Eduardo Navone and Eduardo Farré in the middle of the battlefield. And it was released to the public, after the premiere of the documentary The means of war”, co-produced by Télam and Radio y Televisión Argentina (RTA) that “deepens into the participation of national and foreign media in the scenario of a war today fragmented in memory, alibi in its coverage and censored by both opponents.”

The inauguration, which will take place on the last Tuesday of November, and in which the president of Télam, Bernarda Llorenteand the head of the Buenos Aires Cultural Institute, florence saintout, will take place in the central hall of the Provincial Center for the Arts Teatro Argentino in the capital of Buenos Aires. With this cultural proposal, it will try to promote the dissemination of historical records as audiovisual heritage to avoid the lack of public policies for preservation and conservation, and raise awareness about its need.
