Status: 11/24/2022 10:53 p.m

The German skeleton riders Axel Jungk and Christopher Grotheer just missed out on a podium finish at the World Cup opener in Whistler, Canada. Only a few centimeters were missing.

At the first World Cup race in North America since the end of 2019, Olympic silver medalist Axel Jungk (Oberbärenburg) finished fourth in 1:46.13 minutes, just three hundredths off third place. Olympic and world champion Christopher Grotheer (Oberhof) finished fifth on the 2010 Olympic track in Whistler.

Wyatt with the first World Cup triumph

Marcus Wyatt of Great Britain took his first World Cup win in 1:45.44, the 31-year-old finished just a hundredth ahead of South Korean Jung Seunggi in the final. The Brit Matt Weston secured third place, the third German starter Felix Keisinger (Königssee) was seventh.

Good chances for Neise, Hermann and Kreher

For the women, too, the World Cup winter begins at night (CET), which was held exclusively in European ice canals in the past two winters due to the corona pandemic.

Olympic champion Hannah Neise (Winterberg) is aiming for her first World Cup podium, and world champion Tina Hermann (Königssee) and Susanne Kreher (Oberbärenburg) also have good chances.
