Immediately before entering the World Cup tournament in Qatar, the German national team announced that they wanted to react to FIFA’s announcement that wearing a “ONE LOVE” bandage would be punished.
Immediately before the game against Japan kicked off and after the national anthems, the DFB team made their mark: when lining up for the team photo, all the players covered their mouths demonstratively. The symbol is clear: you are banned from speaking – and you don’t want to put up with it.
The action was not included in FIFA’s official broadcast, which is broadcast to hundreds of countries. However, ARD showed from a distance with its own camera what the players had thought up as a reaction.
