History was made at the Latin Grammy gala on Thursday, when 95-year-old Angela Álvarez was awarded in the Newcomer of the Year category.

Álvarez thus became the oldest Latin Grammy winner of all time, reports The Guardian.

For decades, Cuban-American Álvarez performed only for his family and friends. For the first time, the singer performed in front of an audience at the Avalon nightclub in Hollywood at the age of 90.
