Emotions welled up when Portugal and Chile met in a training match during the summer World Cup.
In the final moments of the first half of the match, there was a scuffle where two Chilean players started arguing with Portugal’s full-back João Cancelo. Soon more players arrived.
The commotion only intensified when Portugal’s star striker Rafael Leão didn’t even bow in the direction of the Chilean players.
Leão took really blatant measures. He literally punched the Chilean defender Iván România straight in the face.
Roman fell to the surface of the grass after the impact.
Leão and Román both flew to the yard as a result of the trouble.
A video of the incident is shown from here.
Leão may well be subject to a disciplinary investigation by the international football association Fifa. Fifa organized the training match between Portugal and Chile on Saturday.
Leão, 26, who shook his fists at the situation, is the star winger of the Italian club AC Milan. According to Transfermarkt, which specializes in football transfers, Leão’s current market or transfer value is 50 million euros.
Portugal, represented by Leão, will play in the World Cup in the same initial group with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.
Chile, Portugal’s opponent on Saturday, is not participating in the summer games.
