Twitter welcomes back Kanye West and Donald Trump

Kanye West is allowed to use his Twitter account again and tested whether he was still blocked with a tweet on Sunday (November 20). Kanye West was banned from Instagram and Twitter on October 9 for the anti-Semitic comments he repeatedly made. Elon Musk, who bought the platform last month, endorsed the rapper’s return.

“Test. Test. See if my twitter is unblocked,” Kanye West wrote, to which Elon Musk responded to the tweet the same day with a nod to Kanye West’s name change to Ye: “Don’t kill what Ye [du] hates. Save what ye [du] love.”

Another tweet from the musician followed on Monday (November 21), in which he wrote “Shalom” followed by a smiling smiley face. Shalom is a Hebrew greeting word, but can also mean “make/keep peace” or “opposite of war” as well as “joy and rejoicing”. Whether Kanye West could have meant all this is unclear, but would be desirable after his past actions. In addition to his anti-Semitic statements, West had also spread conspiracy theories about the cause of George Floyd’s death, angered many people in the “Black Lives Matter” movement with his “White Lives Matter” shirts and did other questionable things, such as Joe Biden, insulting the President of the United Statesbecause he didn’t want to meet with Elon Musk.

In addition to responding to Kanye West’s tweet, Elon Musk also announced that Donald Trump has also been reinstated on Twitter. “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” he wrote, along with the Latin words “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which translates to “public opinion carries great weight.” Musk launched a poll on Saturday (Nov. 19) that was attended by over 15 million people and a total of 51.8% voted yes. Trump was suspended from Twitter in January 2021 after the US Capitol was stormed. He called for violence there. Jack White meanwhile commented on Trump’s approval by Elon Musk as an “official asshole move”.
