Ankle problems

Benjamin Hübner’s return to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is more uncertain than ever. The 33-year-old defender and captain of the Bundesliga club has had to take long breaks from injury in recent years and continues to suffer from back problems. “Honestly, things aren’t looking so good for Hübi, he’s not making any steps forward,” said coach André Breitenreiter on Friday. “It is very uncertain when he will come back.”
Update November 21, 7:55 am: As the “Kicker” reports, Hübner is even threatened with sports disability and the premature end of his career. The problem is less the back, but rather the damaged left ankle, which apparently can no longer tolerate higher loads and reacts with pain and swelling.
Hübner switched from FC Ingolstadt to the Kraichgauers for 800,000 euros in 2016 and has made 103 appearances, nine goals and eleven assists since then. The defender played his last competitive game at the end of July in the first round of the cup in a 2-0 win over Rödinghausen.
On the other hand, Hübner’s defensive colleague Ermin Bicakcic (32) is currently being built up in the Hoffenheim U23s after a difficult rehabilitation after his cruciate ligament tear. In addition to the long-term injured Grischa Prömel (27), Munas Dabbur (30) and Ihlas Bebou (28), TSG also recently missed Sebastian Rudy (32) and Stanley Nsoki (23) due to illness.
