Superstars like Rod Stewart or Dua Lipa had turned down an appearance at the opening ceremony of the soccer World Cup in Qatar for political reasons. Apparently one of them had no problem with that: The South Korean singer Jungkook contributed a performance of the World Cup song “Dreamers” to the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar on November 20, 2022. Of course, Jungkook is anything but unknown.
The 25-year-old singer, songwriter and dancer is a member of the K-pop Superstars bts — a band that has not only celebrated mega successes in their home country of South Korea, but all over the world. For their home country, BTS are even a significant economic factor and account for an incredible 0.3 percent of South Korea’s gross domestic product. As a guest star, Jungkook welcomed Qatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi to the stage.

Also Morgan Freeman there
With Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman, FIFA was able to win another world star for the event. Freeman moderated the approximately 30-minute opening, which — worthy of discussion in view of the human rights situation in Qatar — was dedicated to the topics of “inclusion and diversity”.

The seven-piece band BTS has been on hold for some time as the members focus on their solo careers. As was recently announced, the pop stars will soon have to do military service in their home country. This lasts up to 21 months — and must be completed by all men between the ages of 18 and 28. K-pop superstars are no exception.
