The Xavi Simons or Kenneth Taylor in the Orange selection 44 years ago came from Leeuwarden and made his debut as a professional football player at FC Groningen. Piet Wildschut was 20 years old and very happy that he was allowed to go to the 1978 World Cup at the last minute. ,,I was the only Dutchman happy that Johan Cruijff didn’t come along.”
