Merijn Scheperkamp made himself heard today in Heerenveen. On the second day of the World Cup, the 22-year-old Hilversummer took bronze in the 500 meters. That was the first time in his career.
The gold medal was taken by Canadian Laurent Dubreil, while the silver went to Wataru Morishige. Scheperkamp raced to a time of 34.69 in the 500 meters. That earned him third place in the standings.
The North Hollander is fourth in the general classification behind Dubreil, Yuma Murakimi and Morishige. The other skaters from North Holland, Janno Botman and Dai Dai N’tab finished sixth and seventh.
Tomorrow is the last day of the World Cup in Heerenveen.
