Soccer goalkeeper Almuth Schult is leaving Angel City FC from the US professional league NWSL after less than a season. As the club announced, the 31-year-old’s contract had not been renewed.
After the European Championships this summer, where she did not play, Schult switched from doubles winner VfL Wolfsburg to the USA in the middle of the NWSL season. Schult played one game for the California club.
“Not just a competitive athlete anymore”
The keeper recently said that she was “reviewing the last few months”: “I’m no longer just a competitive athlete on my own, I have a family and we have to find the best way for the children too.”
The American league is “very interesting”. Even though she didn’t play that much, “I really enjoyed the time, got to know new perspectives and a different football culture.” At the men’s World Cup, Schult will soon act again as an ARD expert.
