In the middle of the week, Christian Constantin, president of the Swiss first division club FC Sion, confirmed that he was in talks with Xherdan Shaqiri. The 30-year-old is unhappy with his role at Olympique Lyon and is looking for a way out. Instead of moving home, the offensive man is apparently drawn to the MLS.
the “View” reports on Friday evening, citing his own information, that Shaqiri asked his current club not to be part of the squad at the weekend against AS Monaco. The club officially announced this a little later – actually without the former Bayern professional.
Update 8:20 p.m.: Again just a short time later, Lyon released a statement in which the club confirmed that they had released Shaqiri for negotiations with an MLS club.

According to the report, the background is that Shaqiri is about to be transferred to the Chicago Fire. Sports director Georg Heitz is an old acquaintance at the MLS club: The 52-year-old was responsible for FC Basel between 2008 and 2017 and won three championships with his left foot (2010-12).
Shaqiri has not had an easy time under Peter Bosz since moving to France in the summer, and the relationship between coach and player is said to have been disturbed. In the current season, the 1.69 meter tall winger has made 16 appearances over 995 minutes. Most recently, he was allowed to play from the start in the 2-1 win against Olympique Marseille and was instrumental in the victory with a goal and an assist.
