The reference of the Civic Coalition Elisa “Lilita” Carrió published an open letter addressed to the Argentine people in which he warned about what he defined as an experiment with existential consequences for human freedom. The text, spread on his social networks, was a direct response to the opinion column that the president Javier Milei and the minister Federico Sturzenegger published in the Financial Timeswhere they advocated the development of artificial intelligence without state regulation and proposed turning Buenos Aires in a global AI hub.

In that article, titled “Argentina invites AI to free itself”Milei drew a parallel with the Dutch East India Company and defended the creation of a special legal framework for AI, anchored in the project of Super RIGI that the Government sent to Congress. The context of the article is not coincidental: weeks before, the technology magnate and co-founder of Palantir, Peter Thielhad visited the Pink House and held meetings with Milei, the chancellor Pablo Quirnothe Minister of Economy Luis Caputo and the president of the Central Bank Santiago Bausili. Palantir is one of the world’s most influential companies in data analytics for governments and security agencies, valued at more than 300 billion dollars.

For Carrió, the presidential column in the FT is confirmation of an adhesion that goes beyond the economic. In his letter, he warned that the non-regulation of AI implies “the dissolution of all moral or legal rules, the end of the State and the privatization of both military and police force in the hands of private groups”. He called that “dark illustration” —alluding to the Silicon Valley school of thought that questions liberal democracy—and pointed out that it leads to “private totalitarianism of a corporation: that of Peter Thiel”. He also invoked Hannah Arendt already Karl Jaspers to philosophically frame the risk, and celebrated that the Pope Leo XIV have cited The origins of totalitarianismpointing out that this is why Thiel points him out as the antichrist.

In the closing of the letter, Carrió called for resistance from conscience, appealing to both believers and those who are not: “To those who believe in God and those who do not believe but believe in humanity, to the brave, to the grandparents, to the parents, to the young people, I call you to say NO”. The text was also signed on behalf of the group Voices, in defense of our culture and for justice and peace. The letter was published in the middle of the beginning of the Soccer World Cup 2026which led Carrió to point out that no one can “act absent-minded” while issues that he considers fundamental for the future of the country are defined.
