Menen hopes for a miracle against Polish Champions League winner
Roeselare will face Benfica in Portugal, Menen will play – in Roeselare’s hall – against the Polish Kedzierzyn, the Champions League winner of the past two years. And that this will be a particularly difficult task is an understatement.
“We know what caliber we’re facing,” says player Jelle Sinnesael. ‘But there are possibilities. They also have two injured if I’m not mistaken. It’s not last season’s team. If we reach our level, then anything is possible. We hope for a set win, if more is possible, we will go for it. Even if that would be a miracle.’
Menen lost his first ever Champions League match last week. A logical 3-0 defeat against the Italian Trentino, another top team. And even though things are not going so smoothly for Menen this season, they are still aiming for third place in the group. This way they can continue in the CEV cup, the second European cup.
