Hammer groups for German hockey teams

Demanding tasks await the two German hockey teams in the group games at the European Championships at home from August 18 to 27, 2023 in Mönchengladbach.

National coach Andre Henning’s men will have to deal with arch-rivals and defending champions the Netherlands, Wales and France. The British trio of England, Scotland and Ireland is waiting for the women of national coach Valentin Altenburg.

The hockey park in Mönchengladbach is again the organizer of a double European Championship after a twelve-year break. Eight teams each play for the European crown for women and men. The top two in each group advance to the semi-finals. The tournament winners qualify directly for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The aim for the teams of the German Hockey Association is to end the dry spell in sport. The last golden double was in Belgium in 2013. The German men are the record winners with eight triumphs, while the Dutch women lead the list with eleven titles ahead of Germany (2).
