Portugal with Leipzig’s Silva & BVB’s Guerreiro to Qatar: Ronaldo before the 5th World Cup participation

The Portuguese national team is traveling to the World Cup in Qatar with the two Bundesliga pros André Silva and Raphaël Guerreiro. Coach Fernando Santos called the man from Leipzig and Dortmund into his team, as did captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who will be at the start of a World Cup for the fifth time.

The 37-year-old made his debut at the tournament in Germany in 2006, when he lost to the hosts in the match for third place. So far, the Manchester United forward has made 17 appearances for his home country, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. Of the footballers who are still active, only Argentina’s Lionel Messi has played more often.

With a market value of €80m, the Portuguese’s most valuable player is Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, followed by Ronaldo’s team-mate Bruno Fernandes and City’s Rúben Dias, both valued at €75m. Renato Sanches, among others, was not taken into account. The 25-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain has not played a role recently, also due to injury. His last international match was in November 2021. Portugal are drawn in Group H against Ghana (November 24), Uruguay (November 28) and South Korea (December 2).
