The former German darts hope Max Hopp experienced a severe setback in the fight for his World Cup ticket.
The 26-year-old from Idstein failed on Thursday at the German qualifying tournament after a disappointing performance in the main round. The eight-time World Cup participant has only one chance left to qualify for the highlight of the season in London’s Alexandra Palace (December 15 to January 3).
Only if Hopp secures one of the two World Cup tickets at the last qualifying tournament at the end of November does the former junior world champion keep his tour ticket – and with it the chance to be able to take part in most events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in the coming year. Hopp had recently fallen back to 73rd place in the world rankings after poor performance.
In Niedernhausen, the best German darts players will be fighting for a ticket to the World Cup in the Super League until Friday. Florian Hempel, who reached the third round in London last year, and Nico Kurz, who took part in the World Championship twice, are still in the running.
