Martha Louise of Norway “leaves” the Royal House

Lhe love story between Martha Louise of Norway and “the shaman” Durek Verrett has been known and talked about for some time. But now the princess has chosen to write the next chapter on her terms. A bit like when Harry and Meghan decided to give up their role in the British royal family to have autonomy in their businesses. Martha Louise therefore retires from her official duties for the Royal House of Norwayrenouncing the role of royal patroness. She will keep the title of princess, which however must not be used in any commercial activity. And her future husband will not be able to represent the Royal House in any way, nor boast any connection. And that’s okay.

Martha Louise: “I will no longer perform official functions for the Royal House”

The announcement, in a video on Instagram: “After a period of many questions, I have decided that at the moment I will no longer perform official functions for the Royal House,” he said. “I’m making this decision in agreement with my parents, the king and queen, in order to create peace around the royal house“, he added. The announcement came from the official Instagram profile “Princess Märtha Louise”, which today includes a note encouraging people to follow a second account iam_marthalouise (without Princess).

But the title of princess remains, “according to the king’s wishes”

Martha Louise could also have been deprived of the title of princess to further mark the distance from the royal house, but no, the title remains. The princess made no secret of the difficulties of choosing her, alluding to the feeling of heaviness on her heart at the thought of having to end her patronage for certain organizations, associations and events.

Entities to which the patronage of other members of the royal family will be offered, it is specified in press release of the Royal House of Norway confirming the news. King Harald and Queen Sonja thanked their daughter for the work done for the Royal House, “with care, warmth and great commitment”. It is specified that the princess will retain its title “according to the king’s wishes”. She will also remain in the role of chairman of the board of directors of the Princess Märtha Louise fund.

The Princess and the Shaman

The need to draw a break between the royal and commercial activities of Princess Martha Louise has been evident for a long time. The story with Durek Verrett, a guru also loved by various stars, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, has been ongoing since 2019, always under a shower of criticism. Two years earlier she had divorced the writer Ari Behn, who later committed suicide, with whom she had given birth to three daughters: Maud Angelica, Leah Isadora and Emma Tallulah. The princess’s relationship with a man who describes himself as an “evolutionary innovator, spiritual hacker, human rights activist” as well as a “talented healer” and “bridge between the physical and the spiritual world” has angered many. But the princess is used to breaking rules and expectations. She was the first Norwegian sovereign to divorce, in 2017, she was a physiotherapist and also a storyteller on TV. She has been living in America since 2021, where she gives lectures with the title together with Verrett The Princess and the Shaman.

Here, with the new rules, now specified by the Royal House, “the princess and Durek Verrett must refrain from mentioning the title of princess or other members of the Royal House for commercial purposes.”
