Floorball World Championships started on Saturday in Switzerland. The gold-chasing Finnish team opened their group A game against Slovakia and has not experienced major difficulties against the clear underdog.

Slovakia leveled at 1-1 in the match, but Finland’s first court countered effectively. Finland leads after the opening set 5–1.

Each goal was born from a different player’s stick. About Finnish players Eemeli Salin, Nico Salo, Eetu Sikkinen, Miko Kailiala and Justus Kainulainen were successful in the opening set.

The Finnish games will move from Winterthur to Zurich after Saturday. The host country Switzerland and Norway also play in Group A.

In Switzerland, Finland aims to improve on last year’s silver position. Sweden won gold a year ago in Helsinki. The champion favorite had a crushing start to its own path to the medal games by beating Germany no less than 19–4.
