ArtexArt Editions extend your program dissemination of photography and the electronic arts through books; It has more than 70 published volumes. the beautiful book “Republic of Waires” of Claudio Larrea (Buenos Aires, 1963) condenses his vision of Buenos Aires (he returned in 2010 after having left in 2001) and the Weimar Republic (progressive period between 1918 and 1933 in Germany), seat of the Bauhaus movement.
What do you see in your city after the sun and sea of Barcelona? The artist finds dark tones, gray and black: metaphor, mood? He portrays night landscapes, citizens, crises, monuments, rich interiors and humble empty architectures. Larrea’s is, says Eduardo Villar in the presentation of the book, a “look of expressionist sensibility” that finds a city that “seems melancholy frozen or out of time. (…) With fragments of other dreams, from other times, Larrea dreams of the long night of Waires and shows it to us, always on pause, orphaned by the future and charged with silence”.
