The VfL Wolfsburg footballers have extended their winning streak at the start of the season and remain the clear leaders.
Coach Tommy Stroot’s team had a lot more trouble than expected in the 3: 2 (2: 1) at relegation candidates Werder Bremen. Nevertheless, Wolfsburg is now with 18 points from six games four points ahead of the closest pursuer Eintracht Frankfurt, who only managed to draw 3-3 at TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.
The Swede Rebecka Blomqvist with a brace (11th, 47th) and national player Alexandra Popp (25th) scored for the favorite. Bremen kept up surprisingly well, but the goals from Rieke Dieckmann (31st) and Christin Meyer (78th) were not enough.
Bayern Munich beat SV Meppen 3-1 (0-0) on Sunday. The internationals Klara Bühl (71st) and Lea Schüller (75th) as well as Franziska Kett (82nd) scored for the Munich team, who are third in the table, five points behind Wolfsburg. The interim goal for Meppen came from Kristina Maksuti (77th).
In addition, pursuer SC Freiburg won 5-0 (0-0) at bottom of the table Turbine Potsdam and is fourth behind FC Bayern (12 points). Bayer Leverkusen sent SGS Essen 6-0 (2-0) home.
