World Champion Peter Wright has reached the quarter-finals of the European Darts Championship and is well on his way to consolidating his status as number one in the world.
The Scotsman, nicknamed “Snakebite”, beat Austria’s Rowby-John Rodriguez 10-4 in Dortmund and is now in the last eight.
The Welshman Gerwyn Price – Wright’s big opponent – lost to Rodriguez in the first round.
Bird of paradise Wright now needs another win in the quarterfinals against England’s Ross Smith to defend first place in the rankings.
The Scot was in danger of losing this because his prize money from the European Championship two years ago will be removed from the ranking with the current title fights.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are scheduled for Sunday in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle. After the departure of Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler, German players are no longer there.
