FC Schalke 04 reportedly wanted Raúl as a coach

FC Schalke 04’s search for a new coach ended on Thursday: Thomas Reis takes over and is to lead the Royal Blues out of the crisis. Spanish media have now revealed that a very prominent ex-player previously canceled the squire.

FC Schalke 04 is said to have tried in vain to persuade Spain legend Raúl to play on the sidelines in Gelsenkirchen. This reports the “mark“.

After becoming an icon at Real Madrid, the former top striker ended his career with S04 from 2010-12, followed by Al-Sadd in Qatar and New York Cosmos. For Schalke he scored 40 times (21 assists) in 98 competitive games.

In 2018, Raúl returned to Madrid, where he has been a successful youth coach ever since. A job that, according to the Spanish newspaper, Raúl should definitely fulfill. The 45-year-old is said to have rejected a change to the FC Schalke ejection seat. According to the report, it wasn’t the first time that Raúl Schalke has canceled. There was allegedly already a request in the 2020/21 relegation season.

Coaching job at FC Schalke 04 no longer very attractive

Good for Reis, who made no secret of the fact that his performance PK was not necessarily the first choice. “It’s legitimate for Schalke to examine all options. I don’t care whether I’m plan B, C or D. I’ll do my work here,” said Reis, who was kicked out by VfL Bochum during the season.

The media previously said that Bruno Labbadia and Domenico Tedesco had previously given FC Schalke 04 a basket.

The once coveted job as coach of the Royal Blues has lost a lot of its attractiveness in recent years. The last trainer who was able to break the two-year mark in office was Mirko Slomka (January 2006 to April 2008).
