Leader Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven defeated their direct pursuer EHC Munich on the 15th match day of the DEL and defended their lead in the table. The master has lost again.
The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven also won the top game against EHC Munich in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and consolidated their first place. Thanks to the only goal by Nino Kinder (52nd), the North Germans won 1-0 (0-0, 0-0, 1-0), it was Bremerhaven’s sixth win in a row.
After 15 games this season, the Pinguins (34) are now four points ahead of pursuer Munich (30), who only lost the championship lead to the hosts on Sunday. Coach Don Jackson’s team went without a goal for the first time this season.
Berlin loses in Dusseldorf
Master Eisbären Berlin is still in crisis. The 2: 4 (0: 1, 1: 2, 1: 1) at the Düsseldorfer EG was the fourth defeat in a row for the defending champion. With only five wins from 14 games, coach Serge Aubin’s team is twelfth in the table. DEG, for which Brendan O’Donnell scored twice, remains in seventh place despite their eighth win of the season.
In front of around 5,400 spectators in the Düsseldorf multi-purpose hall, both teams neutralized each other in the early minutes before the hosts became more dangerous. Brendan O’Donnell gave the Rhinelanders the lead in the first power play. The Berliners also had a few chances, but the home side remained the more determined team and extended their lead in the second third with a goal from Philip Gogulla.
Now the capitals increased the pressure, Grenier scored the goal. The guests now pushed for an equalizer, but Alexander Ehl restored the old distance after a counterattack from Düsseldorf. After Leonhard Pföderl was unable to convert a penalty for the polar bears in the final section, the defending champion remained too harmless. O’Donnell scored his second after Berlin goalie Tobias Ancicka went off the ice in favor of a sixth fielder before Noebels doubled the lead to level the game.
Bietigheim wins basement duel
The Straubing Tigers defeated the Schwenningen Wild Wings 3:1 (1:0, 0:1, 2:0), and the Bietigheim Steelers won 3:2 in the basement duel after a penalty shootout 1:0, 1:1, 0:1 , 0:0) against the Augsburg Panthers.
