Dust off the eclipse glasses, because the moon is crawling in front of the sun

Get the eclipse glasses out of the grease, because today the moon is crawling in front of the sun. The partial solar eclipse begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until approximately 12:45 p.m. The peak of the solar eclipse is at 12:05 PM.

If the weather is good, he should be visible in Drenthe. “But also in Groningen and Friesland,” says Theo Jurriëns of the University of Groningen. “I’m not a weather forecaster, so I don’t know how well it can be seen, but with regular clearings you can see it.”

The partial eclipse lasts about two hours in total. “That is an average duration of such an eclipse”, Jurriëns knows. “It’s not like a full eclipse that lasts a total of seven minutes, because now the moon isn’t completely crawling in front of the sun.”

According to Jurriëns, it will not be completely dark in Drenthe. “But if you look at the sun with eclipse glasses, you do look like a bite.”

Last year was the last solar eclipse. Do you miss today’s? The next one is again in 2025.
