André Hazes Jr. gets a big twist on Harry Vermeegen’s ears. The media critic is annoyed by the five-part docuseries in which the folk singer flirts with all his addictions.

It really disturbs Harry Vermeegen that André Hazes Jr. is doing everything he can to draw attention to himself. Now he has released five episodes of almost an hour in which he muses extensively about how hard his celebrity life is. He finds it all so exciting to perform that he dived into alcohol and coke.

Quitter

What a whining, Harry says on his opinion channel. “What does he expect us to say? Should we say: ‘Oh, how pathetic is all that for that Dré’? Should we then applaud that he is done with his alcohol and drugs? From: ‘Great, Dreetje, great to hear that you managed to do all that! Well well!’ What do you want with this?”

Harry is not at all impressed with this Hazes scion. “André himself says that he finds all those singers in the Netherlands so boring. “How do those people want to be remembered?” No, how do you want to be remembered then, Dreetje? As a weakling? Because that’s just it. You’re just a weakling.”

Exaggerate

Exaggerating is also a profession, Harry thinks. “Life is just a bit off, it’s not going exactly the way you wanted it to and now you’re going to tell me tough about drinking two bottles of vodka, snorting eight grams of coke and not sleeping for 60 hours? Well, great! Great! Yes, what are we supposed to do with that, Dreetje?”

He continues: “What do you think of the people with real problems? For example, people are at home with a severely disabled child or people who suffer from dementia? What do you think of that? People with that? Or are they dying? They have real problems! You don’t? It’s all luxury nonsense.”

Whisper and bullshit

André doesn’t know what it’s like to have a really hard life, Harry thinks. “He says, ‘Yes, I had to compete with my father!’ Yes, Daley Blind had that too. He also had to compete with his father, but he just made a career and that’s it, nothing to worry about. And nothing about the vodka and the coke. And that irritates people, Dreetje.”

According to Harry, people are tired of all those self-centered celebrities. “They just don’t feel like this kind of bullshit and this kind of bullshit. You think you’re a rock star, but you’re not. You’re not a rock star, just a simple folk singer, done, and nothing else. Don’t get too complicated about it.”

unpopular

It is not surprising to Harry that André is only becoming less and less popular. “The people who now hate you or already hate you, that’s because those people now have very different problems. They worry about the war, about their gas bills and whether they can afford the groceries or ever get a house…”

“And then you just sit there and moan about your hassle. ‘Look at me having a hard time!’ Those people have nothing to do with that. They think it’s a lot of bullshit, Dreetje. Yes! And you make yourself very unpopular with that, so stop this and keep your mouth shut!”
