Putin met with Kadyrov in Moscow

The press service of the head of the Chechen Republic reported earlier about the meeting between the president and Kadyrov. According to the report, Putin and Kadyrov discussed the socio-economic situation in Chechnya. Reports of the meeting between Kadyrov and Putin appeared against the backdrop of a conflict between the Chechen authorities and the family of Chechnya’s Supreme Court judge Saydi Yangulbaev. The day before, a rally against the family of the judge took place on the central square of Grozny. Chechnya Today specifies that the action was unsanctioned. It was attended by the Chairman of the Public Chamber of Chechnya, Ismail Denilkhanov, who “on behalf of all those present” addressed the President of Russia and members of the government, accusing the Yangulbaevs of justifying terrorism and calling “to destroy almost the entire Chechen people,” the Grozny-inform agency reported.

Denilkhanov also demanded to stop the activities of the “enemy media” – “Novaya Gazeta” and the TV channel “Rain” (recognized as a foreign agent), offered to arrest and try Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and human rights activist Igor Kalyapin, whom he called agents of Western intelligence services. According to him, the work of the human rights organization “Committee against Torture” should also be stopped (the legal entities of the organization were recognized as foreign agents, now it works without registration). Earlier, with a demand to initiate criminal cases against them for aiding terrorists to law enforcement agencies addressed head of Chechnya.

Novaya Gazeta, in response to Kadyrov’s accusations, filed an application with the Investigative Committee demanding that a criminal case be opened under paragraph “a” of Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity). The Dozhd TV channel is still deciding what legal form the response to Kadyrov’s statements will take. The Ekho Moskvy radio station expressed support for the publication and the TV channel, asking the president “as the guarantor of the Constitution” to intervene in the situation.
