Corona alarm at Russian ice hockey team. Several players have tested positive and are now out.
The ice hockey women of the Russian Olympic Committee have to do without six players in their first group game due to positive corona tests. Coach Yevgeny Bobariko announced on Thursday that despite the high number of infections, they will play against Switzerland on Friday. “We hope that they will be available again soon,” Bobariko said, according to the TASS news agency. Other opponents of the Russian team in Group A are the USA, Canada and Finland.
The team had been in isolation in the Olympic Village from January 31 to February 2 after some positive PCR tests. According to TASS, the tests of players, coaches and other team members were negative over the three days, so the team was given permission to train on Wednesday. There are currently 19 players in the Russian squad.
