Motorcycle pilot Marcel Schrötter got his first top 10 result in a good two months on the farewell tour in Moto2.
At the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang, the driver from Vilgertshofen finished sixth on Sunday. Schrötter recently failed to finish in the top ten five times in a row in the world championship.
From 14th on the grid, the 29-year-old worked his way up to eighth place early in the penultimate race of the year, and managed to improve by two more positions over the course of the race. Schrötter is leaving Moto2 at the end of the season after ten years and will start in the Supersport World Championship in the new year.
The previous world championship leader Ai Ogura experienced a drama. The Japanese crashed while in second place on the last lap while attempting to overtake and went away empty-handed, his only competitor Augusto Fernandez (Spain) finished fourth and overtook the classification. Before the final in Valencia (November 6), Fernandez now leads with 251.5 points ahead of Ogura (242). The Italian Tony Arbolino won the race.
