Eintracht Frankfurt inflicted a painful defeat on Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga and moved up to fourth place in the table.
Next bankruptcy for Borussia Mönchengladbach: After the 2-1 defeat in the DFB Cup at second division Darmstadt 98, coach Daniel Farke’s team also lost the Bundesliga game against Frankfurt on Saturday evening (October 22nd, 2022) 1: 3 (0: 3). unity lost.
Jesper Lindström (6th minute, 45th) and Eric Dina-Ebimbe (29th) scored the goals for the SGE, who pulled the tooth with attack-like counterplay and precision of the “Fohlen”-Elf, but also from individual mistakes by Borussia benefited. Marcus Thuram (72nd) scored Gladbach’s consolation goal.
Thanks to the away win, which was ultimately sovereign, Frankfurt climbed up in the Bundesliga table Champions League-Rank four. Gladbach slipped to ninth place.
Gladbach with major injury concerns
Borussia coach Farke had to replace two top performers who were injured in the cup game in Darmstadt and will probably be absent until the World Cup break: goalkeeper Yann Sommer was replaced by Tobias Sippel, for national player Jonas Hofmann the also recently injured Christoph Kramer came back.
Borussia caught cold
In a game led by both sides with a lot of physical effort, the Gladbachers fell behind early on. After a bad pass from Lars Stindl, Eintracht quickly countered. Four Borussia couldn’t stop Lindström on the way into the penalty area and, with a bit of luck, prevented the Frankfurt player from putting the ball in the goal.
Class parades by Trapp
The “foal” team wasn’t impressed. Thuram (10th) had a huge chance to equalize. He ran freely towards SGE goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who prevented the impact with a great foot parade. In the 22nd minute, Trapp distinguished himself again when he repelled a direct acceptance by Stindl from close range to the corner.
Both teams delivered an open exchange of blows. Frankfurt repeatedly countered dangerously, as in the 26th minute when Sippel and Stindl joined forces to prevent Randal Kolo Muani from scoring at the last moment. Sippel was powerless when shortly afterwards Dina-Ebimbe headed in from a corner to make it 0:2.
SGE with high speed counter
The 0:3 was again the result of a high-speed counterattack by Frankfurt, again initiated by an individual error by a Gladbacher. This time Julian Weigl played the crucial bad pass for Eintracht to win the ball. In the end, Lindström again had an easy time free in front of Sippel.
No real gasping
Would Gladbach be able to come back after the change of sides like RB Leipzig did at FC Augsburg in the afternoon? Not at first. Borussia didn’t bring any speed into their game, Eintracht always seemed more goal-oriented and dangerous in their actions. The Farke protégés showed little signs of a real rebellion against the defeat – until the 72nd minute.
The Gladbachers also benefited from an individual dropout. Frankfurt’s Kristijan Jakic played the ball in the feet of Alassane Plea. The Frenchman served his compatriot Thuramwho kept his nerve in front of Trapp and netted.
Game interruption due to mobile TV camera
A curiosity on the side: The game was interrupted almost a quarter of an hour before the end of the game because a cable on the mobile TV camera above the field had come loose. Farke used the involuntary break to swear in his team again for the final phase.
And Gladbach then threw everything forward again, but the bottom line was that they developed too little goal danger to actually embarrass Eintracht.
