Because she took off her headscarf and lived a self-determined life, the Afghan woman Maryam H. (34) was murdered by one of her brothers. Now her eldest brother committed suicide in prison.
According to BZ information, Jamal H. (29) hanged himself in his cell at Plötzensee prison on Friday night. Law enforcement officials found him lifeless in his cell Friday morning. Presumed reason: A promised but not carried out transfer to the open prison.
The 29-year-old Afghan has been serving a five-year prison sentence for aggravated assault since 2020. He is said to have stabbed a man at Alexanderplatz and seriously injured him.

Although he was already in custody at the time of the crime, Jamal H. was also the focus of the murder investigations into his sister’s case. He may have given the order to younger brothers Yousuf Sayed (27) and Mahdi Seyed H. (23).
Maryam (34) disappeared on July 13, 2021. Videos from Südkreuz station show the brothers heaving a heavy trolley case onto a train bound for Munich. The woman’s body was found in Bavaria on August 5. Buried in a hole in the ground, throat slit.
Three days later, Yousuf visited his big brother Jamal in prison. They are said to have hugged each other tightly and shed tears, reported a JVA employee in the trial against the killer brothers.
Upon request, the judiciary confirmed the death of an inmate of the JVA Plötzensee. The spokeswoman did not give any details.
