Zorc sees Bundesliga clubs at a disadvantage because of Corona

Dortmund (dpa) – Borussia Dortmund’s sports director Michael Zorc sees the Bundesliga at a disadvantage in an international comparison because of the stricter corona restrictions in Germany.

“We now have these restrictions, we are currently living without any real spectator income,” Zorc told the specialist magazine “Kicker” and added: “The stadiums are significantly fuller abroad, which creates economic disadvantages for the German clubs.” From BVB’s point of view, he calculates: “If we turn over up to 4 million euros less per home game, that adds up – especially since we have already had two financial years that were heavily influenced by the corona pandemic.”

In North Rhine-Westphalia, only 750 spectators were allowed outdoors until the end, but relaxation was approved on Wednesday. In future, 10,000 fans will be allowed into the stadium again at BVB. Corona has hit the Bundesliga clubs hard, according to Zorc: “The German clubs have always defined themselves through a slightly different path, which is characterized by economic solidity. But now the pandemic is hitting the office. Most clubs are not doing well economically at the moment, that’s a fact.”
