Defending champion Kiel in the cup round of 16

Defending champion THW Kiel lived up to its role as favorite in the DHB Cup and reached the round of 16. At the second division club VfL Potsdam, the team of coach Filip Jicha finally won 38:23 (19:16) after initial difficulties.

The Swede Karl Wallinius was the THW’s best thrower with six goals. The twelve-time cup winner initially struggled, after a few minutes Kiel was 2:5 behind the outsiders. However, the guests improved in the first round and went into the dressing room with a 19:16. In the second half, the favorite pulled away clearly.

In the pure Bundesliga pairings, TSV Hannover-Burgdorf won 26:20 (11:11) against TVB Stuttgart, Bergische HC defeated Frisch Auf Göppingen 32:26 (15:12). Bottom of the league GWD Minden, still without a win in the current season, continued its negative run with a 24:25 (10:14) defeat at the second division club HC Elbflorenz from Dresden.

The round of 16 will be drawn next Friday in Cologne (11:00 a.m.). The goal of the teams is the final four of the four best teams, which takes place on 15./16. April 2023 will be held for the first time in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne.
