Dune murder: children continue to support the accused

The accused was described as a calm and helpful man.

“He was a father who was always there for his children,” Zehra B testified. “He made sure that all my brothers and sisters were educated as highly as possible.” The accused’s eldest daughter explained how her parents had two more sons after their divorce. “It didn’t work out at a certain point, so they decided to get a divorce, but they have always kept good contacts.”

“Never aggressive”

According to Zehra, her mother was also not interested in her father’s new relationships. The woman was unable to testify herself because she suffered from high blood pressure on Wednesday morning and even had to go to hospital. Zehra B. was also still incensed about the way her father was arrested in January 2015. “We have been treated very badly. My mother’s house has been invaded in such a brutal and indecent way. What in God’s name have we done wrong in Belgium to deserve this?” The accused’s second daughter stated that at first she thought it was thieves who entered their home in Rotterdam masked. Semra B. also described her father as her best friend, who was always willing to help. “My father has never done anything wrong to me. I have never seen anything wrong with him.”

All the children, including the youngest daughter and the two sons, also stated that the accused never acted aggressively. In addition, they also expressed their hope of one day having contact with the now 14-year-old son their father had with the victim. “The whole thing didn’t change our relationship with our father. Because I don’t believe my father could or has done such a thing,” Salih B. said.

The pleadings will start today at 9.30 am.
